Los condicionantes domésticos y sistémicos en la relación entre India y Venezuela en el siglo XXI

Abstract

The 21st century shows a scenario in which energy issues have begun to be increasingly linked to major Asian powers. At the same time, the main Latin American oil exporters have gradually reduced their oil sales to the United States, diversifying to new destinations such as China and India.
Faced with a context that combines, on the one hand, India as a country highly dependent on foreign oil to achieve its energy security, and on the other hand, the main oil producing countries in Latin America increasing their sales to Asian powers such as India, what are the domestic and systemic determining factors in energy matters that made Venezuela a key player for India in the new century? In turn, and as part of the previous question, how do United States’ actions determine India-Venezuela relations? Based on the questions above, the aim of this paper is to analyse the domestic and systemic determining factors
that led Venezuela to become the third largest supplier of oil to India in the world in the second decade of the 21st century, only to quickly become marginal.
