Abstract

This article seeks to analyze the strategic-military dimension of Argentine foreign policy towards Brazil during the radical party presidencies (1916-1930). It is argued that, with respect to this sphere, with the arrival of Hipólito Yrigoyen to the presidency in 1916 it is possible to identify a relaxation in the relation with Brasil in contrast to that maintained during the conservative governments (1880-1916). At the same time, it states that, during the presidency of Marcelo T. de Alvear, divergences were evident in the military dimension of foreign policy with respect to his predecessor, a stage that we call “preventive armistice.” The research is carried out based on a qualitative study of documents from the Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship (AMREC), the reports of AMREC, and documents from the Foreign Office (United Kingdom).
