Ending Nuclear Colonialism in Africa: The African Nuclear Renaissance from a Decolonial Perspective

Africa, like the rest of the world, is experiencing a Nuclear Renaissance since the 2010s. However, the continent is hampered by the enduring prevalence and legacy of nuclear colonialism. Thus, to achieve an African Nuclear Renaissance, the continent must undergo nuclear decolonisation. Although some gains have been made in this regard, the continent must address the emergence of nuclear neo-colonialism. The research analyses Africa’s Nuclear Renaissance from a decolonial perspective in the context of nuclear colonialism and the prospects for Africa’s nuclear decolonisation. It positions Africa at the dawn of age of nuclear colonialism, citing illustrative examples, and evidence of Africa’s Nuclear Renaissance. It argues that the continued prevalence of nuclear colonisation in Africa stresses the imperative for the continent’s nuclear decolonisation by highlighting the opportunities and challenges associated with Africa’s nuclear decolonisation.
